apoloniaa:

have some headcanons on turian biology:

1. Instead of containing minerals like calcium and phosphorus, turians have metallic bones in addition to their plates. This makes them heavy, and contributes to their inability/unwillingness to swim.

2.Speaking of plates: they function like osteoderms, and are actually embeddded in the skin, as opposed to extensions of the skull. This is why they can move easily.

3. In less thick parts of turian skin, you can see a blue tint from their blood, much like the pink tint humans have.

4. The large protrusion on the front of a turian’s chest is essentially a keel bone, as found in birds.

5. As an adaption to the high radiation on Palaven, turians shed their outer layers of skin frequently to prevent cellular damage.. As a result, most turians dedicate time in their hygiene routines to removing flaking skin.

6. The spike on a turian calf is the evolutionary rememant of a particularly deadly claw/talon. As turians evolved into bipedals, the claw could no longer support the weight, and shifted upwards. (See: deinonychus for my claw concept)

7. Turians give birth to a single live young, in an ovoviviparous fashion.
