Can we just take a moment to appreciate how our girl explicitly declares that she wants to get stronger? I’ve re-watched CCS for God knows how many times but I think this is the first time I’ve seen her saying this, like explicitly. Sakura is a really strong-willed girl –she takes everything she says seriously. Like that time when she promises to herself how she’s going to confess to Yukito, or that moment when she promises to protect Touya after he gave up all his power to Yue. She’s a girl of her word. Speak = Action.
Of course we all know that this is not the first time Clow/Sakura/Clear Cards have almost endangered one’s life. But why is it that Sakura never says “I want to get stronger” before? The reason must be none other than Syaoran. Because she’s witnessed how her most loved one’s pushed himself too much, and she wants to get stronger to protect him. Or it could also be because she gets inspired by how determined he is to protect her. Whatever the exact cause is, her most loved one is the trigger to her character development!
It’s not that she’s not growing stronger all these times and it’s not that she’s been having no desire to grow stronger either, but the fact that she’s explicitly expressing herself how she wants to get stronger is just… a proof of how much Syaoran means to her.
These two keep pushing themselves beyond their limit if it means to protect each other. Love can’t be more beautiful than this ;___; Sure SyaoSaku moments in CCS:CC #9 are sweet and all, but this scene alone in #14, in my personal opinion, beat them all –it just shows how mature their love is, how great of a trust exists between them, how important they are to each other, and how strong their feelings, determination, and resolution to protect each other. (I can go on with the list, but I’ll stop before I can’t stop lol).
Syaoran’s character development has been very apparent, as opposed to the more subtle development of Sakura. But she’s been such a rockstar in Clear Card! She’s been a wonderful girl ever since 1998, but I’m loving her even more in 2018!
