I took the watch knowing I would not be
alone. When neither of us sleeps well from day to day, the assumption of
company in sleeplessness makes it all the more tolerable. It took less than a
handful of minutes for Valerie to emerge from her tent. She claimed the Lady Vivienne snored
horribly, but the lack of noise from their tent disputed the claim and I
thought it best to remain silent. And then a question I did not expect
changed the nature of the evening. Valerie wondered if I thought less of her
for bringing two mages along. I hadn’t realized my thoughts meant so much. I
assured her I approved of her choice of support. Dorian has proven to be of
excellent company; well versed in the language of nobles-foreign to most
outside their circles. He will represent the Inquisition quite favorably and be
invaluable if we encounter any trouble.I respect the Lady Vivienne; she has
shown a keen awareness of our predicament and is always ready with a few
suggestions-even if they stand to benefit her in the long term. There is little
question to her skills and abilities; a formidable warrior, the lady does not
suffer fools or foes.Valerie seemed content with my assessments
and our conversation ended. When she leaned against me it took even less time
for her breathing to slow and she slept for a time in front of the fire. I
caught my eyes growing heavy as well and had to recite verses until my relief
appeared allowing me time to rest.
